LOCAL ANESTHETIC INSTRUCTIONS

1. Care giver must watch child to discourage biting on cheeks, tongue or soft tissue.
2. Soft, squishy diet for 2-4 hours, or until numbness wears off.


PLASTIC FILLING/TOOTH INSTRUCTIONS

1. Do NOT bite into hard foods, toys, fingernails, or clothes fasteners (zippers or buttons).
2. NO sticky foods-refer to sticky food list.
3. NO hard foods-refer to hard food list.
4. Mouthguards are highly recommended by our office for older patients with strip crowns on permanent teeth to help avoid future breakage.


STAINLESS STEEL CROWN INSTRUCTIONS

1. NO sticky foods-refer to sticky food list. These instructions stand until the patient loses their tooth. Tell all care givers these new instructions.
2. In the rare event that a crown comes off, keep it and call us ASAP to recement it.


EXTRACTION INSTRUCTIONS

1. NO drinking through a straw for 24 hours.
2. If bleeding starts again, use gauze and have patient bite for 10 minutes or until bleeding stops.
3. NO salty or acidic foods for 24 hours, as they may sting.
4. Decrease physical activity for the rest of the day.
5. Patient may need/want over-the-counter pain medication after visit.


AMALGAM/SILVER FILLING INSTRUCTIONS

1. NO really hard foods if filling is large or between teeth.
2. NO ice chewing-this could fracture the filling.


STICKY FOODS TO AVOID

Now-N-Laters, Starburst, Tootsie Rolls, Jolly Ranchers, Gummy Bears, Gummy Worms, Hubba Bubba, Bazooka, Sugar Daddies, Caramel Corn, Caramel Apples, Taffy, Suckers, etc.


HARD FOODS TO AVOID

Pizza Crust, Hard Cookies, Raw Vegetables, Apples, Hard Crusted Bread, Ice, etc.
